Greenville, SC – The Homeless Period Project officially rebranded the organization to The Period Project following a series of stakeholder conversations and a need to better reflect the individuals it serves. Now operating as The Period Project, the nonprofit organization unveiled an updated logo and announced a new name - The Period Project. www.periodproject.org
Building upon its six-year history and the strength of its brand, The Homeless Period Project changed its name to The Period Project and introduced a modernized logo that represents its vision to ensure equal, affordable access to menstrual hygiene products for all individuals. The new name and logo emerged following a series of stakeholder conversations and a need to better reflect who the organization serves.
“This is an exciting time for The Period Project, and we look forward to the many opportunities that lie ahead as we continue to address the needs of menstrual inequity and access to menstrual health products for those in need,” said Stephanie Arnold, The Period Project Board President and Co-Founder. “We believe the refreshed name and new logo truly represent our purpose of improving the lives of menstruators one period at a time.”
- The Period Project was founded in Greenville in 2015, originally serving only individuals experiencing homelessness. The team discovered several startling statistics:
- One in four menstruators struggle to purchase products
- One in five low-income menstruators report missing work, school or similar commitments due to lack of access to period supplies
- The program expanded to serve those living in poverty in addition to the homeless.
- In 2021, The Period Project distributed 107,839 period packs - a 57% increase over 2020 and valued at $416,259.
- Since 2015, The Period Project has delivered 11,901,505 individual menstrual products to more than 1,200 schools, shelters, food banks, and organizations throughout the U.S. who serve the homeless and those living in poverty.
The Period Project believes the stigma of needing period products to live and work in our community must be broken. The singular focus of our nonprofit is a critical element in keeping someone in school or at work. “Just last month, I learned of a local high school
student who misses one week a month of year-round swimming due to her family’s inability to afford menstrual products. This is unacceptable and that’s why we do what we do to eliminate the barrier of access to period products,” said Laurie Rovin, Interim Chief Executive Officer for The Period Project.
By increasing local, national, and global awareness of period poverty and delivering menstrual hygiene products to those in need, The Period Project is working to replace poverty with community and shame with dignity. It is part of a worldwide movement of similarly focused nonprofit organizations accelerating the momentum by incubating ideas and exchanging mutual aid for the common – and greater – good.
The Period Project is a member of the Alliance for Period Supplies, a national organization comprised of allied programs that collect, warehouse, and distribute period supplies in local communities.
